Injustice to females?

By now, everyone would have known about the 23-year-old medical student from New Delhi who was gang-raped by 6 men on a moving bus, with her boyfriend being attacked and thrown out of the bus, and subsequently she herself being flung out too, after being sexually assaulted to such an extent that she had severe internal organ damage. And the worst of it was, as we all know, she didn’t manage to pull through her ordeal despite being sent over to Mount Elizabeth Hospital for treatment, as a last-ditch attempt to save her life.

The only consolations out of it were that at least she managed to get her statement noted, and that subsequently calls on women rights in New Delhi were heard.

It’s really sad, how a death due to a senseless gang-rape can possibly occur. It’s been reported that women get raped everyday too, just that apparently no one dares to report it, for fear of backlash and disgrace. 😦

As far as I’m concerned, the fact that no one dares to report the rapes is a very upsetting thing, and it further reflects the injustice that females suffer too – it’s as though they become men’s playthings, and can be dropped once they lose their freshness. It’s so sick too.

The above link explains why women SHOULD be raped – something that I very vehemently disagree with. It’s utterly corrupt and sick – do you honestly think that women are men’s playthings!? You reckon that because a female drinks alcohol/dresses sexily, they’re asking to be raped?

Let me tell you, this is absolutely NOT the case. Females are humans and entitled to their rights as well. Just because females are technically the weaker gender, doesn’t give males the right to take advantage of them and do whatever they like with the females before dropping them. This totally doesn’t cut it, and it’s absolutely unacceptable for a female to be disrespected by a male, if there’s no strong basis to show that she shouldn’t be respected.

Granted, taking it from a world perspective, it is true that many countries are starting to have more gender equality, especially in the more developed ones. Not saying that the developing countries don’t have gender equality though, don’t get me wrong.

I just intensely HATE the fact that in this rape case, the suspects who raped her are beyond heartless. Yes, there have been many calls from people to have them sentenced to death, and it’s something I agree strongly with too. What they did to the hapless girl was beyond cruel – assaulting her, raping her many times over, throwing her out of the moving bus in freezing weather, and attempting to run her over after throwing her out. Even animals won’t do that, as far as I’m concerned.

Fresh update from CNN, which has also echoed my point of view.

My opinions may seem extreme, yes. But to such an injustice, this is beyond horrific. Definitely, many people will be in favor of the death penalty for the suspects.
